The Profaci-Gallo mob war of 1961-1962 arose when the Gallo brothers attempted to encroach on lucrative Profaci family rackets. Among the most coveted of these was the policy-numbers racket. Joey Gallo and his brothers, Lawrence and Albert had once provided protection for Joseph Profaci and his associates. By the early 1960s the Gallos had moved into the rich jukebox racket and also extorted money from numerous metropolitan area New York businesses. Some of these extortion attempts are profiled in my e-book.
